Reality Check - Do we need 4K?

I started gaming with games like Doom when the resolutions were very low.  Improvements in tech have always led to improvements in games, b/c developers can be creative and find new ways to apply the tech. Half life did things that Doom never could.

Also, very large TVs will probably become cheaper and more common. It wasn't too long ago that Plasma TVs sold for 5k. Now you can get one for 400 bucks. These larger, more cinematic screens will make use of the higher resolution.
