@superbuuman On the most basic level, it's just easier to create with less details. I can sculpt a PS2 era character model in an hour or so, but it might take me a few days or more to do a more detailed model that would work on today's systems. Every aspect of development is like this. There are more animations, physics, lighting, effects, etc.

People have to work much harder to make stuff look and feel right on today's hardware. So you can just work with the same small development teams and your games would take even longer to develop, or you hire more people which shortens the development time, but costs you more money.

So yeah, it's mainly about labour. Pay an automotive mechanic to work on your classic car, or just do it yourself because it's a much simpler setup than today's vehicles. Or take a newer car to get worked on. You can't do it yourself, and it will cost more because it's more technical and less mechanics have the knowledge/skill to do so. Exactly the same with development.
