To those who continue to wish for an old school FF remake (VII and VI mostly it seems)..... you may
want to be careful what you wish for. Pretty sure SE knows they can't do any of the old FF games any
justice with a modern day remake. Going by SE's track record of the last 10 years of development,
they haven't released a single thing worth a crap that wasn't an HD upgrade of some sort. Not
including their 3rd party acquisitions of course (Crystal Dynamics, Eidos, etc.).
Their best remakes on the Nintendo DS were made by an external studio, Matrix. Their most successful
original game in the last while, Bravely Default, was made mostly externally as well, Silicon Studio.
The entire XIII trilogy was a mixed bag at best, blatantly segregating their fan base into 2 opposing
camps.
The company, SE as we know it today, can't do any justice to any old Squaresoft games. Hardly anyone involved with the originals is left. So, they just keep putting them off in press releases. Keeping their names in headlines, but doing nothing more with them. Nobody should be holding their breath for
any 'true' remake of any old FF games. The best you may get, are abysmal updates such as the horrid
display of FF VI on mobile phones. In that case, they may as well just leave those games where they
belong. In the past.
I cringe to think what SE would do to FF VII in a modern remake. Just look at what their publishing
side has done with Legacy of Kain. Turned it into the most generic pile of crap shooter in
"Nosgoth".
Squaresoft is long dead. Square-Enix carries the Final Fantasy franchise forward, in name
only. I haven't seen anything "truly" Final Fantasy in about 15 years now. ARR is likely the best
anyone will get anymore, with fan service injected all over the place for the sake of subscriptions.
Here's hoping that XV will simply suck less than XIII. It certainly won't rival anything prior to X.
