E3 Highlights: Best Next-Gen Graphics - Forza 5, The Division, Battlefield 4

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 23 Juni 2013 | 15.07

@spindie I'm sorry, but i only partly agree with your opinion. I understand that you are pointing out we are limited by these console life spans but there are other factors to consider because i think you're looking at things too narrowly;

a) I think we will have other consoles coming out in the following years in an attempt for these developers to gain some of the market share dominated by sony and microsoft. Namely, Steam Box, which will take a console format but will have to availability of upgrading like a pc. Perhaps that way the life span you point out will be increased.

b) Console developers have to grow into the new technology, in other words how amazing were games graphically when the ps3 and xbox 360 first came out? You look back at them and then look at the games developed on new engines in their later years.. there's quite a jump isn't there regardless of their life spans. What i'm getting at is that we have a new generation.. and we only initially started experimenting with it, so there's a lot to work with. They say that technology doubles every 2 years or so, so i think by the next generation we will have a LOT of processing power, but not know what to do with all of it.

I'm not a die hard person for consoles, as i like PC too, which I prefer a lot to be honest, but I think you're jumping to conclusions too early, and too eagerly because all we have is speculation... None of said consoles are out yet. Therefore, i guess we have to wait and see.

For the record, OF COURSE PC WILL BE FAR SUPERIOR, WE DEVELOP GAMES ON THEM FOR FUCK SAKE.

The Last of Us - Spoilercast

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Jumat, 21 Juni 2013 | 15.06

I'll make this easy for you guys. Here is a list of everything Tom (guy on the left) assumes about life and about The Last of US.

1) Every single parent comes home promptly at 6PM and gives their children warm fuzzy hugs and has 0% stress in their lives.

2) Father-daughter relationships rely on said warm-fuzzy hugs to show they enjoy each other's company. Without the words "Dad, I love you very much" and "Daughter, you are the light of my life" the audience cannot comprehend the love they share, and will mislead them to think the father is a selfless bastard.

3) A modest two-story house in RURAL TEXAS is equivalent to a mansion.

4) When during a debate, you say [Joel] reminds me of x reference, and your colleague says "That is a reference I do not understand at all", explaining said reference is never needed, merely throwing it out into the wind is all that needs to be said to put everyone in their place.

5) Even if a stong female character, arguably stronger than the main character, dies out of her own choosing and her own sacrifice to potentially save the world of disease (and this person is not in any kind of romantic relationship with main character), it still remains a cliche'd plot device.

6) Because two characters out of dozens more have a somewhat more upbeat personality, there should a 50/50 on happy sad within TLoU universe, and more people should be cheery, even if it's more understood that these two characters are either a)young and partially naive, b) establishing a place to live with electricity that feels more like home, or c) both honestly just holding in the sadness in order to perservere and survive, and in contrast to Joel's dark and broken demeanor, these two are brighter figures.

7) The ending is needs to be purely logical and not emotional. Save the world, kill the girl. Duh you guys.

Fez 2 not coming out for Xbox consoles

Developer Phil Fish has revealed in an interview with Polygon that his upcoming game, Fez 2, will not be on Xbox consoles.

Fish and his company has had a spotty relationship with the Xbox 360 and original Fez. Polytron released a patch to fix certain bugs in the game in 2012, but the patch corrupted certain save files, which led to Microsoft pulling the patch completely. The developer did not pay for a second certification fee, and left the patch as is. Fish wrote on his blog (emphasis by Fish), "It's a [horrid] numbers game to be playing for sure, but as a small independent, paying so much money for patches makes no sense at all."

Fish shared more details about Fez 2. Rich Vreeland will be doing the music for the game. He also said that Fez 2 is an entirely new game. "Fez 2 is to Fez 1 what Zelda 2 was to Zelda 1, but more different. The biggest reason is that I just wanted to go back to that world. I want to expand on my little world and its mythology. It's not a case of wanting to recycle ideas we didn't get to put in Fez 1. Since the games are going to be so different, there's not a whole lot that could just carry over."

Fish also shared his two cents on the Xbox One just before its policy change: "I hope it's a joke. I hope Microsoft is pulling a New Coke on us, announcing a [bad] console nobody wants, only to eventually announce the Xbox Classic and winning back everybody's hearts. Microsoft is making a console for itself. Not for gamers. Not for developers. Just for its own, greedy little Orwellian self. I'm not interested."

After the change, he still hasn't shifted his opinion. "They didn't change anything about their anti-indie policies." When asked about the PS4, he was happy with how Sony is doing everything. "It's too early to tell how everything is going to unfold, but their heart definitely seems to be in the right place. Which is a weird thing to say when talking about giant monolithic corporation, but there's a handful of people working at Sony today who are really trying to do some good."

Nintendo: 'We are to blame' for poor Wii U sales

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Rabu, 19 Juni 2013 | 15.06

Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata has directly addressed the reason why the Wii U console has sold poorly.

In an interview with CNBC, he discussed why Nintendo's newest console, the Wii U, has not met sales expectations.

"We are to blame. We relaxed our [marketing] efforts, so the consumers today still cannot understand what's so good and unique about the Wii U," Iwata said.

"We have been unsuccessful in coming up with one single software with which people can understand, 'OK, this is really different.' As long as people have hands-on [experience], they can appreciate the value of the Wii U, but because there's not software that's simple and obvious for people as 'Wii Sports' for the Wii, potential consumers do not feel like trying the Wii U."

The Wii U console sold 3.45 million units worldwide for the 2012-13 fiscal year, which ended March 2013.

Nintendo cut its Wii U sales forecast in January as a result of lower-than-anticipated sales. Expectations were set for 4 million units sold, down from an initial target of 5.5 million.

The publisher predicts that it will sell 9 million Wii U consoles worldwide over the course of the coming financial year. Plans to return the company to profitability were outlined in its full-year earnings report, which focused on releasing "key" first-party titles during the second half of 2013 and through next year. The company has also said it will improve Wii U sales by "communicating the compelling nature of our hardware and software" through Miiverse.

The Wii U sold 425,000 units during its first week of launch, 50,000 consoles short of the original Wii's first-week sales tally of 475,000 units in 2006. To date, over 40 million original Wii consoles have been sold in the US.

Nintendo recently announced Super Smash Bros. for Wii U and Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze at its Nintendo Direct event, which took place during E3.

Nintendo's new Steel Diver game to be free-to-play

New version of submarine simulation title to be multiplayer-focused; no platform confirmed.

Nintendo's first venture into the free-to-play gaming realm will be a new Steel Diver title.

According to an IGN report, Nintendo senior managing director Shigeru Miyamoto said that the new game based on the side-scrolling submarine-piloting title will be focused on multiplayer. "We're exploring [the game's design] from a perspective where we can take that from a multiplayer standpoint - it's going to have this four-player battle mode that I think is going to be very interesting."

Nintendo has not confirmed a platform and release date for the new Steel Diver at this point in time, though CEO Satoru Iwata said last week during E3 that the game would be out this fiscal year (which ends in March 2014). For more information on the first Steel Diver game, head to GameSpot's previous coverage on the title.
