No Man's Sky on Xbox One is Something Microsoft "Would Love to See"

In the latest Inner Circle podcast, ID@Xbox director Chris Charla said "I would love to see [No Man's Sky]" on the Xbox One, but that it was up to the game's developer, Hello Games.

Charla understands that a lot of developers might be avoiding Microsoft because of the parity clause, but he said more developers need to simply reach out to Microsoft and talk about it.

"If you're worried about policies," he said, "we try to be really easy to get in touch with. When we talk to developers, we try to be really transparent. Don't assume that something you read on Neogaf is our policy, just talk to us."

The parity clause, which requires games launch on the same day they do on other platforms like the PlayStation 4 or PC, has been the topic of some controversy among gamers and developers alike. It was put in place, according to Xbox director Phil Spencer, to make Xbox One owners feel "first class." As Charla discussed in the podcast, however, it can also make gamers feel left out when a game they really want doesn't launch on the console because of a business decision.

Earlier this month, Charla said that Microsoft isn't as strict about the parity rule as people think, saying, "If it's a situation where a developer needs to ship serially on consoles because they don't have the resources to simultaneously ship, we totally get that. It's no problem. Our6 goal is to make sure that if a developer wants to ship their game on Xbox one, that they can ship their game on Xbox One."

Charla added that Microsoft doesn't want developers taking a payment for exclusivity on another platform and then releasing "some months later" on the Xbox One without adding something to make it "fresh" for Xbox owners.

No Man's Sky is coming to PC eventually, but for now gamers can expect the game on PS4 later this year.

Destiny's New PVP Battleground Inferno Clash Hits This Week

Bungie's sci-fi shooter Destiny will be getting a new battleground this week in the form of Inferno Clash. Detailed on the Bungie blog, Inferno Clash will contain a few characteristics that were present in Inferno Control mode but has a heavier emphasis on scoring kills.

These include the removal of the radar on the HUD, placing only one set of heavy ammo crates per match, and simplified scoring. For the latter, Bungie has removed "as many scoring events as possible" and made it so that assists will no longer be awarded points. The map rotation will also be carried over from Inferno Control, which featured the following maps featured in the line-up:

  • The Anomaly
  • Firebase Delphi
  • Twilight Gap
  • Rusted Lands
  • Shores of Time
  • Blind Watch
  • Asylum
  • The Burning Shrine
  • The Cauldron
  • Pantheon

Destiny's upcoming patch 1.1.2 update will introduce a few tweaks to the game in preparation for the House of Wolves expansion. This includes increasing the capacity for players' storage vaults, which are currently capped at 20 slots each. The update will also implement new audio options, a feature for colorblind players, and various gameplay fixes.

New Halo 5 Trailers Confirm October Release Date

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Senin, 30 Maret 2015 | 15.06

@nyadc @reduc_ab_ Well, I hear your perspective, and I think I understand.  The game, as with the entire Souls series, is simply not for you.  You've said Bloodborne is a niche title, and I agree to a point.  It's not the difficulty in my mind that is the ultimate factor in these games appealing, or not, to more people.  It is the thematic material, as well as the presentation.  These are metaphysical games, and I say that not to sound high and mighty intellectually, but simply as a person who is very interested in philosophical applications insomuch as they relate to spiritual/mental means of elevation.  Miyazaki, and I can only assume his team, as well, have done their reading on such matters.  I'm not talking about organized religion, but the transcendence of the need for such a thing.  The Souls series is rampant with this very subject, but it is largely represented symbolically through the use of some very specific imagery and its juxtaposition, which necessarily will go right over the head of someone that has no interest in Occult matters, or the metaphysical in general.  I like the challenge, true, but the vision of existence, not just what it is to be human, but to exist period, is, for me, where the interest lies.  It may not seem that all of this has anything to do with Dark Souls, or Bloodborne, but I tell you it does.  It is there, worked into the very fabric of these games.  I can only imagine the experience of playing said games might seem hollow, or downright boring to someone who does not resonate thematically, even spiritually with Mr. Miyazaki's work.  And I would like to point out that he did not invent these concepts on display in his games, but is simply expressing them through the filter of his personal eye, not only his conscious perception, but his unconscious yearnings, if you will.  Furthermore, I believe many people play the games he makes not solely for a challenge, but also, and perhaps prevalently, because they share such yearnings.  Anyway, that is a bit of my perspective.

One more thing: the reason I say hold on to your copy, though you may not play it much now, is because in time the material may begin to interest you.  Could be one year, or twenty down the line.  Or never.  Who knows.  You will know, when it comes.  If it does.  But this is getting beyond video game talk...good day.

Some Developers Will Get Valve's Vive VR Headset for Free

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 29 Maret 2015 | 15.06

Valve and HTC will give their virtual reality headset Vive to some developers for free, Valve has announced.

Valve's spokesperson Doug Lombardi told Ars Technica that the company hopes to start taking requests from developers soon. "More info and 'sign up' forms will be available to all interested developers, big or small, via a new site coming soon," Lombardi said, adding that a new sign-up site might go live as early as next week.

So far, we've seen only a handful of developers make games for the Vive headset, like Owlchemy Labs, which is working on Job Simulator.

Giving the development kits away for free could help Valve and HTC encourage developers who are already making games for the Oculus Rift and Sony's Project Morpheus develop games for Vive as well, which Valve said will be out by the end of the year. Oculus, by comparison, currently charges $350 for development kits, while the Samsung Gear VR Innovator Edition (which is powered by Oculus and a Galaxy Note 4 smartphone) is already for sale at Best Buy for $199.

Mortal Kombat X Sound Effects Made With Goo, Toilet Plungers

Mortal Kombat X's gory fatalities are a gruesome sight, but have you ever thought about the work that goes into creating the sound effects for them? Turns out, that process is almost as gross as the fatalities themselves.

Yesterday, Mortal Kombat X developer NetherRealm held a live broadcast, "Kombatcast," where it offered some new information about the fighting game as well as a look behind the scene.

During the broadcast, NetherRealm showed some of the foley work (the process of recording sound effects) that went into the game. In the video, which you can see above, NetherRealm developers use green goo, a plunger, and some other tools to create the gross, goopy sounds you'll hear during Fatalities. NetherRealm added that it destroys a lot of vegetables, fruits, and nuts with hammers to create other sound effects.

NetherRealm also discusses how it created the game's music and other improvements it's introducing to Mortal Kombat X, so the video is definitely worth watching if you're a fan of the series.

The Mortal Kombat X release date is April 14 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and PC. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 editions, however, have been delayed.

Changing PC Hardware Too Often Can Lock You Out of Origin Games, EA Confirms

If you're benchmarking different PC hardware components in a short period of time you can accidentally lock yourself out of games that use Electronic Arts' digital distribution platform Origin, the publisher has confirmed.

The news comes out of Guru 3D, where writer Hilbert Hagedoorn discovered he had locked himself out of Battlefield Hardline while running a graphics performance test using different graphics cards.

After using a "handful" of graphics cards, he received a notification from Origin that too many computers have accessed his account's version of Battlefield Hardline. Hagedoorn thought that this was a new kind of digital rights management software associated with Battlefield Hardline, but Electronic Arts has since released a statement that this is a part of Origin in general.

"Origin authentication allows players to install a game on up to five different PCs every 24 hours," Electronic Arts said in a statement. "Players looking to benchmark more than five hardware configurations in one 24 hour period can contact our Customer Support team who can help."

It's not going to be an issue for most players, but at least now you know that if you're going to be testing a lot of new PC hardware components, you'll need to contact EA's Customer Support team first.

Resident Evil 5 Gets Steamworks Instead of Games for Windows Live, New Content

Resident Evil 5 can now use Steamworks on PC instead of Games for Windows Live for its online features, Capcom has announced.

If you purchased the game on Steam, you'll be automatically upgraded to the full Steamworks edition so you don't have to use GFWL anymore. If you originally bought a retail package GFWL version, you can use the GFWL activation code on Steam to redeem the Steamworks-enabled version. The game also has a built-in tool to allow you to transfer save data and Achievements from the GFWL version to Steam.

Sadly, any DLC content you bought directly from Microsoft's GFWL Marketplace store will not carry over to Steam due to the lack of a CD or activation key.

If you want, you can also just keep playing the GFWL you have installed.

The new Steamworks version also adds the Gold Edition content that was released on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. Available for $15, the Untold Stories Bundle adds a versus mode, four new costumes, Mercenaries Reunion, and two new story-based chapters.

PS4 Dragon Age: Inquisition DLC News Coming Next Week

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Sabtu, 28 Maret 2015 | 15.06

Just because the first expansion for Dragon Age: Inquisition--Jaws of Hakkon--launched first on Xbox One and PC, doesn't mean it's not coming to PlayStation 4. The content will indeed be released on Sony's new console, and BioWare is planning to announce more details about the PS4 release sometime next week.

"Jaws of Hakkon is a timed exclusive for the Xbox One and PC (through Origin). This approach allowed for a lot of support from Microsoft and Origin in launching the DLC, so [it] did have that benefit for the team, and we appreciate the partnership," BioWare general manager Aaryn Flynn said as part of a Kotaku Q&A session today.

"However, as a timed exclusive, it is definitely coming to the game's other platforms, and based on our internal discussions I expect we'll be announcing more details next week."

"I hope no one boycotts the purchase, as it's a pretty fun adventure that WILL be available on all platforms," he added. "That said, everyone is free to vote / message / communicate how they feel, so if that happens it happens. We're definitely paying attention."

Jaws of Hakkon was released this week only for Xbox One and PC as part of an exclusivity arrangement between BioWare owner Electronic Arts and Microsoft. The terms of this deal prohibit BioWare from even disclosing the length of the exclusive period.

So far, the Jaws of Hakkon expansion has been confirmed only for Xbox One, PC, and PS4. BioWare has not announced any plans to bring the DLC to last-generation consoles such as Xbox 360 or PlayStation 3.

In Jaws of Hakkon, players will "discover the fate of the last Inquisitor and the powerful dragon he hunted."

Set in an overgrown wilderness populated by the Avvar hunter people, the content will see players exploring an "ancient Tevinter fortress that hides a dangerous secret."

Gamers can also expect to face off against new enemies, and amass new legendary armor and weapons. Jaws of Hakkon concludes with a battle against an "ancient god of war bent on destroying the world."

For more on Jaws of Hakkon, check out GameSpot's review and some images in the gallery below.

First 007 Spectre Trailer Revealed

MGM today published the first trailer for this year's 007 movie, Spectre, and it gives us a lot to think about.

One line in particular stands out to me. "You've got a secret. Something you can't tell anyone, because you don't trust anyone," Moneypenny says to Bond at the beginning of the spot. What do you make of that?

Here's the official plot description for Spectre:

"A cryptic message from Bond's past sends him on a trail to uncover a sinister organization. While M battles political forces to keep the secret service alive, Bond peels back the layers of deceit to reveal the terrible truth behind Spectre."

What do you make of the trailer? Let us know in the comments below!

Spectre, which also stars Guardians of the Galaxy's Dave Bautista and Academy Award-winning actor Christoph Waltz, opens on November 6, 2015. The movie is being directed by Sam Mendes, who was also behind 2012's blockbuster Skyfall.

Looking for more Spectre content? Check out this behind-the-scenes video that shows the difficult--yet rewarding--job of shooting an action sequence on top of a mountain.

The fate of the James Bond video game series is unclear. Call of Duty publisher Activision is thought to have dropped the license, and it's unclear if anyone picked it up.

Resogun Defenders Review

Housemarque's voxel-packed side-scrolling shooter Resogun is easy to love for it's stimulating visuals and soundtrack, but once your newfound fascination with voxels and dance music finally cools, it's the challenge to survive and the call of the high score that draws you back. This tradition is upheld in the new Defenders DLC, which contains two new modes: Protector and Commando. Protector mode is a more punishing and exciting variation of the standard game--you earn powerful upgrades at a rapid pace but typically die in one hit--while the Commando mode has you defend the last house on the planet as either Arnold Schwarzenegger or an Arnold Schwarzenegger impersonator, sans spaceship.

OK. It's obviously not Arnold Schwarzenegger, but while defending humanity's last home from incoming enemy spacecraft and environmental hazards, you do randomly spout some famous lines in his voice. It's a fun touch, but don't let the comedic side of Protector get in the way of what's most important: defending that house. You run along the ground, firing into the sky as enemies nosedive into frame. Although the house you're defending can withstand some damage, similar to structures in the classic game Missile Command, all it takes is one hit for you to die in Commando mode, and there are no continues. You do have a few of the same abilities as your spaceship, including bombs and speed boosts, and you can jump, which is useful when ground-based enemies eventually appear. Because you can fire in more than two directions with the right analog stick, Commando mode feels like it has more in common with twin-stick shooters than it does with Resogun.

Blasting through increasingly difficult waves of enemies in Commando mode is challenging and the Schwarzenegger impersonations are humorous, but fighting on foot isn't as thrilling as zipping around in a ship. You don't move particularly fast, and your gun is underpowered for what feels like too long relative to how fast the number of targets increases on screen. This new style of gameplay is intriguing because it's different, but it lacks the sense of speed and excitement that's typical of Resogun. That's not to imply that it's bad or even not fun--you still experience the wonder of voxels and the drive to earn higher and higher scores, and likely a bit of laughter--but Commando mode just doesn't compare to the rest of Resogun.

If you're looking for something more fast-paced and exciting, focus on Protector mode. It plays very similar to Resogun proper, where you zoom around a ring-shaped level, shooting down enemy ships and rescuing vulnerable humans on the ground, but you earn weapons and armor upgrades at a much faster rate than usual. The trade-off is that enemy swarms grow equally fast and you don't start with any extra lives; the only second chances you get are in the form of expendable shields that occasionally come as bonuses for saving humans.

Piloting a fully-upgraded ship is a treat rarely afforded in other modes, where extended boosts and more destructive overdrive cannons are reserved for the best players, so Protector mode is a great way to experience a side of the game that may have been out of reach before. It's oh-so-sweet to have a massively upgraded ship, and because the difficulty also scales fast, you still feel like you're being challenged, even with all of the added firepower.

If Resogun has already run its course in your mind, there's nothing in Defenders that's going to lure you back in for the long haul. Of course, it's hard to imagine how someone could ever get enough Resogun, being that it's one of the best arcade-game experiences in years. In that sense, Defenders is a worthy addition to an already great game that will no doubt please anyone with a fondness for fighting within an inch of their life while also blowing up everything in sight into tiny, beautiful pieces.

Destiny Vault Expansion Was Limited by "Older Generation Hardware"

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Jumat, 27 Maret 2015 | 15.06

Sci-fi shooter Destiny will be getting the House of Wolves downloadable content pack soon, and Bungie has revealed more information on the patch players will be getting prior to its release. Detailed on the official Bungie site, the update makes a few tweaks to the game, including increasing players' in-game vault space.

Update 1.1.2 will increase the vault dimensions for armors and item to 24 slots and for weapons to 36 slots. Prior to this, all vault item spaces were capped at 20 slots each. The expansion of the vault was limited by "memory constraints on older generation hardware," which required a compromise to expand storage space. For Destiny players on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, the item comparison feature will no longer function in the vault. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will remain unaffected.

PlayStation 4 owners are getting the 2.50 Yukimura update today, which introduces a Suspend and Resume function. While Suspend and Resume won't immediately work with Destiny, the 1.1.2 Update will enable its function.

Patch 1.1.2 will be out in April, before the House of Wolves DLC hits. The update will also bring new audio options, a feature for colorblind players, and various gameplay fixes.

Rust Experiments With Racial Empathy, Randomly Assigns Skin Color

In a recent update, the post-apocalyptic MMO survival game Rust got a few unusual changes. The game now randomly selects player's skin color and faces, tying them to each player's Steam ID so that they cannot be changed.

Lead designer Gary Newman detailed the changes in a blog post last week saying "Everyone now has a pseudo unique skin tone and face. Just like in real life, you are who you are – you can't change your skin colour or your face. It's actually tied to your steamid."

Previously, players were all identical young people, but the developers wanted to shake that up. "There's a lot of skin colors in the world," Newman added. "It's really easy to appear racially insensitive when doing this. This is compounded by the fact that everyone is really used to seeing this guy as a white guy, so when you see him as a black guy it feels like he's just 'blacked up.' So we're spending a lot of time trying to lessen that effect."

So far, the response has been mostly positive, but as PCGamesN reports, comments on the game's steam forums have been pretty nasty (gallery below). Some people aren't happy about the fact that they aren't white men anymore. Apparently that's also been accompanied by a surge of racially-charged language. In an interview with Kotaku, Newman quipped, "It makes me wish I'd set up some analystics to record how many times the N-word was used before and after the update. It was used quite a bit from what I've seen."

Newman wanted to take action against the players using that kind of charged language, but other players began stepping in. "What we found was that when someone was being racist, they were always in the minority and more often than not the other members of the server stepped in and took action (i.e. they all worked together to hunt him)."

Newman hopes that this will teach people about empathy and what other people have to deal with on a regular basis.

"I would love nothing more than if playing a black guy in a game made a white guy appreciate what it was like to be a persecuted minority. There's still work to be done, so consider this just the boilerplate of an idea for now. It's quite pleasing to see different races working together in game, and makes you realize how arbitrary race is."

More details on the Harley Quinn downloadable content pack for Rocksteady's upcoming Batman: Arkham Knight have surfaced. As shown on the Batman: Arkham Knight Amazon page (via Cinemablend) the exclusive DLC will allow players who pre-order the game to assume the role of Harley Quinn and "wreak havoc inside the Blüdhaven Police Department."

The DLC pack's story will take place prior to the events of Arkham Knight, and tasks Quinn with the goal of infiltrating Blüdhaven in order to rescue Poison Ivy. The Harley Quinn DLC was first announced in July last year, and will include four challenge maps that will allow you to play as the jester and "utilize her unique weapons, gadgets, and abilities."

Alongside the PlayStation-exclusive Scarecrow nightmare missions announced at E3, it looks like there is going to be a substantial amount of downloadable content for Arkham Knight. Check out what the game looks like on PS4 in this recently released gameplay video. Batman: Arkham Knight is scheduled to launch on June 23 for the Xbox One, PS4, and PC.

New Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare DLC Trailer Shows off New Maps, Story

Xbox 360 and Xbox One Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare players will be getting a new DLC pack on March 31. In the meantime, Activision released a trailer running through four new maps and the next chapter of the Exo Zombies story.

Each of the new maps has a unique theme and stage hazard to spruce things up. Perplex, for example, is a posh, modern apartment complex with modules that move about, changing the landscape as you play. Another map, Climate, has toxic water that can instantly kill unsuspecting players. Also making an appearance is the the OHM-Werewolf, a 2-1 light machinegun/shotgun combo.

Fans of the Exo Zombies game mode will also get their next set of missions with actors John Malkovich, Bill Paxton, Rose McGowan, and John Bernthal reprising their roles as they try to escape an encroaching zombie hoard.

The Ascendance DLC is the second in a set of four planned expansions. It will release for Xbox platforms first thanks to a timed exclusivity deal with Microsoft. Players that paid $50 for the Advanced Warfare season pass can download it on release for no additional charge, or it can be purchased separately for $14.99.

Advanced Warfare was the top-selling game last year in the US according to NPD sales figures. For more, check out our review.

Star Wars TIE Fighter Fan Film is Amazing Blend of Anime and Nostalgia

While you might normally think of a project titled TIE Fighter as a part of the excellent Star Wars space combat game series, but it's also the name of the exceptional fan film in the YouTube video above.

The film's art and animation is the work of one man, Paul Johnson, who created this side story "over 4 years' worth of weekends," according to the video's description. But he got some help on the music front from "the living guitar solo Zak Rahman and sound design by up and coming audio technician Joseph Leyva."

You can see a poster for the film from Johnson's DeviantArt page below, which draws inspirations from "those really classy oil/acrylic-painted movie posters by folks like Drew Struzan."

Despite the work and the amazing end product, Johnson isn't asking for money. He writes, "Don't support me on Patreon, because I don't have one! And don't donate to my Kickstarter, because I don't have one of those either. Instead, if you enjoyed this, give someone at your workplace, uni, school or whatever a random bar of chocolate or can or Coke or something. Seriously, it'll probably make their day. That would totally make my day."

If the game stoked your nostalgia for inside-the-cockpit action, the online storefront GOG.com released the original Star Wars TIE Fighter and X-Wing games last year. And we're expecting to hear more information on Star Wars Battlefront next month.

Game of Thrones: Episode Three – The Sword in the Darkness Review

Everything you've been fighting for up to this point is finally in front of you. The third episode of Telltale's Game of Thrones will decide whether or not you get what you want, and whether or not you need to stop thinking and just start running.

The Sword in the Darkness does an excellent job of mirroring the Game of Thrones HBO series' tendency to place a high-tension, high-energy episode smack in the middle of a season. Episode Three never lets you catch your breath; each scene features major choices with consequences that ripple out to this chapter's credits--characters will continue to harp on decisions made early in the episode--and hint at larger problems to come in following episodes.

Episode Three upset me in ways the first two episodes haven't. It made me physically anxious. As someone who has read all the books in A Song of Ice and Fire and generally knows what's coming in the television series, it's fabulously disturbing to see Telltale's characters get kicked around and have no idea how their story ends.

You will let a lot of people down in The Sword in the Darkness. Every plot-hinging choice leaves someone you love out in the cold, debating how much they can trust you. You must choose between family and best friends, mothers and sisters, the lady you've sworn to serve and the lord you've made a dubious pact with. Friendships and alliances are made at the expense of breaking others. Game of Thrones nails the sentiment that author George R. R. Martin hammers home across A Song of Ice and Fire: you can't please everyone, and the second you displease someone, you better watch your back.

You know what they say about live dragons...

The Sword in the Darkness brings plot threads that were left free-floating in Episode Two to their high points. Rodrick struggles to stand his ground against the cruel Whitehills while still treading carefully because the youngest Forrester, Ryon, remains the Whitehills' captive. Half a world away, Asher and Beskha, joined by Malcolm, chase Daenerys Targaryen across the desert, searching for an army of sellswords to bring home to Ironrath. In King's Landing, on the eve of the royal wedding, Mira must choose between waiting for Margaery Tyrell to have time to help her and seeking out her own, less favorable alliances. Gared, just as he's settling into life with the Night's Watch, is thrown a curve ball that proves he can't escape his past.

It is in this episode that you finally see the fruits of your labor bloom; every big choice you've made in Episode One and Two catches up with you. Situations you tried to clean up, like the strange incidents with Mira and the coal boy or negotiating alliances with other northern houses, are proven to be un-cleanable. Everything you've worked for can be destroyed in seconds or made worse, depending on the people you side with.

Decisions available to you, as members of House Forrester, always revolve around what is best for the family. But some family members and their allies differ in what they feel is the right course of action. Episode Three brings to the forefront the struggle to keep your family placated and safe, either by listening to them, making empty promises, or acting on your own when you don't have time to consult them. There's a moment where Rodrick has to choose between standing up to the Whitehills to defend his little sister Talia, or biting his tongue and taking the abuse because his mother worries what repercussions his actions will have on Ryon's safety. It's a powerful moment, being forced to choose between your mother and your sister, showing weakness and allowing your enemy to walk all over you in hopes the danger subsides, or standing tall and showing strength because your baby sister is counting on you. The outcome is awful no matter what, because you've let someone down either way, and you always feel horrible.

DISAPPOINTED.

There aren't many combat sections in The Sword in the Darkness, as most of the episode is focused on verbally navigating situations and choosing the heinousness of the lies you tell. There is also not much time given to exploring environments, and in each segment when you get to poke around, you're looking for something within a time limit. Twice I had to search for things--like a piece of paper or an escape route--while enemies were on the approach, leaving little room to look around. It's a bit disappointing, as it takes away from the world feeling lived-in, with objectives in straight lines rather than allowing some wiggle room.

Once again, the Forresters continue to be the most interesting characters on screen, and their plight is much more interesting than what's going on with Jon Snow or Margaery. But the way Game of Thrones' canon characters come into play in Episode Three is great. Their presence seamlessly weaves into and out of the plot, with small things like a brief comment from Cersei Lannister making Margaery question your loyalty. Tyrion, Cersei, Margaery, they're not just dangerous people to placate with conversation anymore; they are now completely in charge of your fate.

Most of this is witnessed through Mira's storyline, as she has the most direct contact with them. As of Episode Three, Mira's story is by far the most intriguing, as she's playing with fire on a level a little higher than her siblings. Her plot started off slow in the first two episodes, but her struggle is the center of Episode Three, and she's playing a game as intricate as those currently struggling for Westeros' crown.

Asher and Beshka's tale continues to delight, as the two of them play beautifully off each other with their bantering and sibling-like bond. The Ironrath plot, however, is starting to get dull; Rodrick and those left behind in the North continue to beat their heads against the Whitehills to no avail. The events are repetitive: Rodrick or another Forrester stands up to the Whitehill member in charge, the Forresters get slapped around, and the Whitehill in charge is replaced with another Whitehill a little meaner than the last. Each Whitehill makes the same promise to destroy the Forresters if they don't submit to authority, but so far there's only been some light kicking and punching. As of now, the Whitehills don't feel like a threat as devastating as Ramsay Snow, but I'm unwilling to discount them just yet.

And finally, Gared and his secret about the North Grove have been given more attention and care within the narrative. What was tossed around briefly in the last two episodes is finally in the spotlight and becomes a matter of grave importance very quickly. Just like the series it's based on, Game of Thrones has taken something small and seemingly minor and ripped off the curtain to reveal it as the most important thing you know.

Standoff at Ironrath.

Game of Thrones' third episode succeeds in making you feel like the rest of the season is hinging on the decisions you make. It marks the narrative apex so far, the highest dramatic climax, with its barrage of tough choices in rapid succession. You can't help but feel bad for these characters; it looks like there's no way for them to win. If you've been playing it safe up to this point, deferring to answers that keep the characters safe and relatively benign, you're in for a rude awakening. Episode Three marks the beginning of the end for neutrality. There are tough decisions to make and no way around them, making this episode true to the Game of Thrones atmosphere at its core.

Get The Order: 1886 for $40

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Senin, 23 Maret 2015 | 15.06

Amazon has a great deal on one of the year's biggest PlayStation 4-exclusive games.

The Order: 1886, which was released only a month ago, is now on sale for $40, down from the standard $60 launch price. You can find the deal here.

Ready at Dawn's cinematic third-person shooter earned middling reviews overall, as you can see in the The Order: 1886 review roundup. GameSpot's review gave it a 5/10 for overlooking the best aspects of its premise in favor of boring storytelling.

Still, if you're curious, this is the cheapest we've seen the game on sale for yet.

Another great offer for PS4 owners this weekend is the current PlayStation Store flash sale, which is offering a large number of games for less than a dollar each.

Looking for more great deals? Check out GameSpot's regular Gaming Deals posts.

AU New Releases: Bloodborne Launches Exclusively For the PS4

From Software's challenging gothic role-playing game Bloodborne launches exclusively for the PlayStation 4 at Australian retailers this week. The game is directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki, who also led development on Dark Souls.

Unlike Dark Souls, Bloodborne introduces the ability to attack foes from a distance using firearms. The game also features a regain system to encourage players to fight more aggressively. For more details on the new features and more, check out our round-up of everything you need to know about the game.

Prefer your fantasy to be a bit less dark and gothic? Pillars of Eternity generated a lot of support when its Kickstarter campaign, named Project Eternity, opened in 2012. The game amassed a total of $4,163,208 in crowdfunding, far beyond its goal of $1,100,000. Developer Obsidian Entertainment said it had turned to Kickstarter to generate funds for the project as it was "almost impossible" to secure backing from traditional publishing means.

The studio has worked on several role-playing games in the past including, Fallout: New Vegas, Neverwinter Nights 2, and South Park: The Stick of Truth. Pillars of Eternity was meant to be released last year, but Obsidian pushed the game's release date back in order to iron out bugs. For more on Pillars of Eternity, check out GameSpot's preview from Kevin VanOrd.

Exercise to Unlock Pong in New Atari App Releases

Written By Kom Limpulnam on Minggu, 22 Maret 2015 | 15.06

Atari, the company that dominated the video game market for much of the the '70s and '80s, is now getting into fitness tech with the Atari Fit app for iOS and Android devices.

Atari fit aims to motivate users to get fit and healthy by earning points that will unlock classic Atari games like Pong, Super Breakout, and Centipede. The app is compatible with other fitness devices like Fitbit, Jawbone, and Android Wheat, and can also collect data from other fitness apps such as RunKeeper, Apple Health, and Google Fit.

Basically, the app gamifies more than 100 exercises and more than 30 workout plans. The more you get in shape, the more points you'll earn, which can then be used to unlock Atari games as well as points that can be redeemed at the pharmacy chain Walgreens.

The app is free to download, and was developed by 8BitFit, which is focused on gamifying fitness, and an award-winning production studio called Gametheory.

"With Atari Fit, players from around the globe can exercise, play and get healthy together by providing a gamified fitness experience unlike any other app currently available," said Fred Chesnais, Chief Executive Officer, Atari, Inc. "By uniting the universal need to exercise and live healthfully with the entertaining experience unique to Atari games, we've created an app that proves fitness can be fun."

Atari, which has changed ownership multiple times since its glory days, was recently in the news for pressuring developer Jeff Minter to pull his tunnel shooter TxK because it's too similar to Atari's Tempest 2000.

Carmageddon: Reincarnation Finally Has a Release Date

Carmageddon: Reincarnation, which revives the "points for pedestrians" destruction derby-style car game series, will leave Steam Early Access and get a final release on April 23, developer Stainless Games has announced.

"You've been through the Early Access Pre-Alpha, you've been through Beta, and all along the enthusiasm, support and brilliant feedback of the Carmageddon community has been helping to get us to the holy grail… That is The Game… FINISHED OFF!" Stainless Games said.

The final game's Career Mode will span 16 chapters, each including 3-4 events, with 50 events to compete in overall. The multiplayer mode will allow up to eight players online or over LAN, and includes six event types: Classic Carmageddon, Car Crusher, Fox 'n' Hounds, Ped Chase, Death Race, and Checkpoint Stampede.

There are also nine maps, 36 race routes, and 24 vehicles to choose from, unless you were a Kickstarter backer, which will get you a special edition bonus car.

The game was funded on Kickstarter in 2012 with over $625,000, and in 2013 Stainless Games raised an additional $3.5 million from Bullfrog Productions founder Les Edgar, which the developer said would allow it to bring Carmageddon: Reincarnation to Xbox One and PlayStation 4 as well as PC.

Top 10 Cities: Skylines Mods

Cities: Skylines has achieved remarkable success in such a short time since its launch. It's not undeserved, as our review points out, but there are still a few issues with the game that have yet to be resolved with updates. Though these issues don't ruin the experience, their resolution would result in a game that makes your city planning more fun and a little less tedious.

Thankfully, the game is easily moddable. New features, new buildings, and tweaked systems are available to be installed directly from the Steam Workshop page. We've pulled together ten of the best mods that feel like essential additions for any mayor's budding metropolis.

First-person Camera

Not since Streets of Sim City have we been able to get this close and personal with our virtual citizens. This First-person Camera mod allows you to toggle a new camera mode, by pressing the Tab key, which allows you to stroll your own impeccably designed streets. Play with citizens in the park, check out your wind turbines up close, or just creepily follow one citizen as he journeys to work and back each day. You need to get to know people if you want to be the best mayor possible.

Timboh's Marvellous Interchange Emporium

Traffic management is crucial in Cities: Skylines, and it's hampered by the less-than-perfect traffic AI. Long story short: you want to avoid having intersections that require cars to stop at all. This is why you should browse Timboh's Marvellous Interchange Emporium--a package of massive, complex interchanges and roundabouts that don't require cars in any lane to ever stop. Plus, interchanges are just amazing.

Tree Brush

Who's bright idea was it to only allow players to place individual trees, one at a time? It's madness. That's why you need to download the Tree Brush, a tool that lets you paint trees in a large radius--similar to the way in which you paint districts. With just a click and a few swipes of the mouse, you can have beautiful, lush forests covering the whole map.

Automatic Bulldoze

Personally I've never had to bulldoze an abandoned building because my city is so perfect that no-one would ever want to leave, but we can't all be as civically-gifted. Use this Automatic Bulldoze mod to make your abandoned buildings automatically disappear, which is a treat for especially large cities beset by crime, fire, or buildings full of corpses due to the lack of a cemetery. You know what they say: out of sight, out of mind.

Day Night Cycle

New York is known as the city that never sleeps, and since Cities: Skylines doesn't ship with a day/night cycle, technically my city can never sleep so it follows that it is on par with New York. Only, with fewer murders. To keep things that way, you should allow your citizens to get some shut-eye by installing the Day Night Cycle mod. Not only does it provide some variety to the lighting effects, but you'll also get a better sense of the passage of time.

Auto Save

I find it incomprehensible that the game shipped without an auto save function, especially since it costs cash to undo recent mistakes--like the wind turbine I accidentally put near the park swing set. Unlike me, you can avoid civil lawsuits from grieving mothers by installing this Auto Save mod, which allows you to set how regularly the game periodically saves your city.

Lenin Square

Personally, I think there isn't enough concrete in Cities: Skylines. So why not turn your city into a grey Bolshevik paradise with the Soviet Buildings pack and its crown jewel, Lenin Square. After all, what better way to simulate the redistribution of wealth, and the brilliance of central planning, by giving you absolute power--down to the ability to rename individual citizens.

Reddit For Chirpy

If you're sick of bulldozing the houses of citizens who send snarky messages to you through the in-game Chirpy app, then you need this Reddit For Chirpy mod. This changes the messages that appear from a fake social media feed, to real-life topics or replies from your preferred actual subreddit. Set it to the Cities: Skylines subreddit for a deliciously meta experience.

True Colour Correction

I lied when I said there wasn't enough concrete in Cities: Skylines. What I actually meant was, there isn't enough colour. Though the game already features a couple of colour grading options accessible through the settings menu, they don't offer visuals as gorgeous as the True Colour Correction mod. The effects here are on the subtle side, but they help to enhance the game's slightly dull palette without being too distracting. Sorry Lenin, we're trying free markets for a while.

Traffic Report Tool

Remember how I said traffic management is crucial? Well, one oversight Cities: Skylines made was a failure to provide in-depth visualisation for how traffic is actually flowing. The game shows heat maps, but it's not enough information to troubleshoot congested areas. Download the Traffic Report Tool to see arrows that show exactly how traffic is flowing, and how heavy it is on each road.
